What Liberalism Means, and Why I Still Believe in It

Recording from the May 8th Substack Live

Two plus two equals four. There are twenty-four hours in a day. And in times like these—when the meaning of words collapses and the center is declared an illusion—we need to return to first principles.

This Substack Live was one of the most personal and philosophical sessions I’ve done. We talked about what liberalism actually is—not as a partisan label, not as an aesthetic pose, but as a moral and epistemic project grounded in dignity, pluralism, and humility before the complexity of the world.

I tried to draw the line between philosophical liberalism and the brittle ideology it’s often mistaken for. We explored why I think identity politics, when absolutized, becomes illiberal. We examined the legacy of Enlightenment thought and what it really means to fight bad ideas—not by deplatforming, but by defeating them in public. And I made the case for why the center is not a compromise, but a commitment to holding the democratic space open for everyone.

This is a conversation about values. About meaning. About why I believe truth still matters—and what it means to defend it, not with slogans, but with clarity, courage, and coherence.

If you missed the live stream, you can watch or listen here. And if it resonates, I hope you’ll share it.

The center must be held—not because it is easy, but because it is ours to hold.

Thank you
