Great piece. I was considering posting something about the avalanche of corruption, but Brock said it better than I could.
I have been flummoxed that the Democrats in 2024 failed to highlight corruption, which had already been stratospheric in Trump’s first term, as a campaign issue. They did highlight the “threat to democracy,” but blatant corruption is more obvious and visceral.
Water under the bridge now. But I’m glad to hear that Stephanopoulos at least has gone there. Now we need this kind of candor in regular newscasts where millions will hear it.
Yes and. It's hard to stomach that the Republicans join Trump on the gravy train, not as flagrantly but enough to be causal for their appalling conformity with depravity. That could be worse than Trump. Every so often a madman comes along, but a mad half of Congress?
Just wish he wasn't shouting into a hole. Sadly anything published or broadcast via legacy media is instantly limited in its reach to old farts like me that still watch telly or read the paper. How do we get young people more involved and interested? How do we USE social media for activism rather than the younger generation getting caught up in the unending doomscroll of booktoks and other general idiocracy? Because the kids of today will be in charge while we're trying to enjoy our retirement!
Short-form vids like TikTok are guaranteed to leave no residue of reality. Once attention spans are reduced to seconds, any lasting impact is over in about the same amount of time. Yet it’s somehow become the arbiter of news for two generations of ADHDs. I just saw in it awesome 30 second dance routines, funny cats and the usual stupid stuff; so I kept moving along. How it morphed into something far more significant defies my imagination.
I don’t understand how the blatant corruption is not off-putting to Americans regardless of party. There has always been a central shared though line: “Give me a fair shot and I’ll use my God given talents to do what I can.”
I had assumed that this line of thinking was still in play and folks would be angered when the search lights stopped on the giant thumb parked on the scale. Instead of anger, I’m sensing apathy. It’s like I didn’t get the message that the new through line is “Back your favorite corrupt politician and hope you picked a winner.” When did people decide that the hollowness of the latter was preferable to the former?
For those who value truth. Well said. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, as usual, for your clear, moral voice
