I am currently traveling in Iceland and saw someone representing the Republican party commenting on this decision on BBC. Her take was “let’s see if the Democrats complain about having the opportunity to fire everyone in this administration when it’s their turn.”

I did not say that the colonists should have "submitted to the king". (It would not have, in my view, been submission besides; the king was the rightful sovereign and the United Kingdom had rendered no small financial and military support toward the development of the colonies.) I said that the American Revolution was, evaluated on the record, an act of treason. (Plenty of the colonists agreed and fled to the colonies that remained loyal.) It was treason in service of principle, but that is still treason.
George III of Hanover had overstepped his proper constitutional bounds vis-à-vis the American colonies. I have read the list of grievances in the Declaration of Independence and do not find them repugnant. (That is not to say I would have been a rebel, but the monarchism I espouse is not the monarchism that operated in the late 18th century in Great Britain.) The Parliament of Great Britain overstepped its bounds in imposing taxation on the American colonies in defiance of settled parliamentary practice in Great Britain. (See, for related matters, UK House of Commons Standing Orders 48 and 49, both dating back to before 1715, an outgrowth of Parliament's role as a petitioning body and the genesis of which are summarized in https://rdo-olr.org/money-bills-and-the-senate/ and https://rdo-olr.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/olr_27.1_small.pdf; the only other one dating back to the 18th century is Standing Order 81.)
