Amen! My thanks for your holding and confirming reality while many refuse to see it, and believe that this is a win and affirmation of DjT's strength. There is no peace, this is early stage, and many of us are waiting to see what advantage, what bargaining chips were on the table to make this a win, not for the people, but for these two morally bankrupt individuals.
Note that neither Israel nor Hamas were at the peace deal signing yesterday. We are witnessing nothing more than political theater and the killing will continue soon.
And before we hand out peace prizes to Trump we need to de Hamasify Gaza and get Israel and the Palestinians on a sustainable path to a two state solution. It’s in the peace plan but obviously not reality dude 🤨
Brilliant piece! I do think this deal was quite different from the January deal, but your point still stands.
See eg “There’s already revisionism being spread on this point so let’s be clear: This is the first time that Hamas has agreed to release all the hostages with Israel still in control of most of Gaza, including the strategically crucial area around Rafah and the Philadelphi Corridor. While Hamas remains in control of the rest of the territory, after returning the hostages it will have no more trump cards to play, and the only way it will be able to force Israel out would be to disarm and give up control to the transitional force.”
Our lives are but a metaphor. Mikes long commentary can be shortened considerably.
✅ "This is Paul Harvey and now for the rest of the story".
✅ "A complete remission from a life-threatening disease is wonderful, but if it lasts all of 4 weeks, it is merely a reprieve before sickness and perhaps death reappear. What we need to see in our actions is durability of response." -- Stephen Strum, MD
For the first check-marked item, we need to remember that too many in this country have short-term memory issues. Trump and Peace are like oil and water. The Peace President is an oxymoron, and anyone knowing the life story of Trump who deigns him as such, knows not the difference between shit and shinola. One of the hallmarks to identify Trump's actionsis:
Is what he is doing constructive, or is it destructive to the welfare of Americans?
• DOGE (Destroy Our Great Experiment).
• Violation of the Constitution: Freedoms of Speech, Assembly, a Free Press, Due Process, Emoluments.
• All the graft and corruption associated with Trump, his "University" and involvement with Russian Oligarchy (do some research on the sale of multi-million dollar real estate to Soviet oligarchs). Look back to the 80s, and 90s for cases against Trump involving real estate fraud.
Look at two other hallmarks of Trump:
• Will it augment his greed and/or ego
• Will it emulate the behavior of notable dictators and tyrants: Kim Jong-un, Putin, Erdoğan ?
Summing it up: Millions have died, here and abroad, on Trump's "watch." Trump badly managed COVID-19, he will also end up killing many Americans with the appointment of lunatic RFK Jr., and he will continue to cause death and destruction in the US with the henchmen and women he has employed from the DOJ, to DHS, to the DoD.
During Trump's watch, he abandoned Ukraine - that has cost lives. He supported Netanyahu at the cost of genocide to thousands of Palestinians. Yes, he has brokered a truce and that has brought 20 Israeli lives back to Israel. But will what transpires in Gaza-Israel be a durable cease war? Will Hamas continue to murder and/or terrorize Palestinians? Time will answer this.
If Trump were to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, I could only conclude that our world is far worse than I already believe it to be. It would be, in my view, the epitome of hypocrisy; it would be the giant sign affixed to the front door of the restaurant at the end of the universe saying "Closed due to Code Violations."
Thank you for clearing the cognitive dissonance I had on being asked to celebrate Trump as a peacemaker without acknowledging the fact that he has been anything but a peacemaker when it comes to his domestic agenda. It seems like we’re supposed to forget about the domestic part and just cop a “don’t worry, be happy” attitude about this latest Israel-Hamas peace plan. For example, how many people in countries that received USAID funding have already been killed as a result of its withdrawal? I also appreciate you documenting the factual timeline, which clearly shows Trump-Netanyahu breaking the original pre-Trump agreement. It reminds me of Nixon’s secret deal to prolong the Vietnam war so that he could be re-elected. But in this case, it’s not even a secret. The timeline you posted is out there for everyone to see. Lavishing praise on Trump’s statesmanship given the facts seems a little bit too similar to those cabinet meeting round tables where each member tries to outdo the previous one with praise for their leader.
Thank you! It saddens and disgusts me that Joe Scarborough would be offering praise for a clearly self-serving act by a clearly self-serving authoritarian narcissist. I would have thought he was a little smarter than that. I think maybe he might feel more at home with the crew at Fox News and I would encourage him to go there. I hope he reads your post; maybe it will wake him up!

Mike Brock, national treasure. I could not be more grateful for your clarity. Write on!
Yes!

Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize for one simple reason: Barack Obama got one.
Obama didn't deserve his at all, of course, and Trump definitely doesn't, either.

Trump got Bibi to toe the line so there’s that. And the deal still is not finalized so no peace prize for you yet Donald 😂
So very well said!
