This is not the first article I have read by you about the people you left behind in silicon valley. When I started the article I wondered why these people bother you so much. When I finished it I understood.
Ethics is the only thing that can make one person superior to another. Not money, not status, not beauty, not talent. Just ethics. And yeah, I DO think I’m better than Trumpers. Vastly flawed as I am, I’m fucking superior to every single one of them.
Your statement, Trump described the commitment as “morally binding” and promised “a tremendous self-policing aspect.” Rump talking to anyone about what could be morally binding is the most ludicrous thing anyone could imagine. SMH
Thinking of Peter Thiel's infamous comment that "evil can be good," I arrived at a framework for categorizing evil that feels right to me. It may be too simplistic, but here it is --
- A Good person is one who cares about and desires to mitigate the suffering of others.
- An Evil-A person is one who, while not enjoying the suffering on others, is willing to ignore it if it benefits him or her.
- An Evil-B person -- should we call him "super-evil"? -- enjoys the suffering of others and actively seeks to cause it.
It raises the question of who is more of a blight on society: the Evil-B person who is actually afflicted with a kind of psychosis, or the Evil-A person who is not so afflicted, but willing to enable the depredations of an Evil-B person who holds power.
I love this because I understand it 100% (grew up in old deep south family - many similarities to my relationship with the majority of the family and "friends" that I grew up with)
