I've been thinking about this for a while. Musk is a utility to trump until he is not. trump will only get rid of musk when he can promote the lie of saving the country from him under the guise of national security. He will make himself appear to be America's savior by ridding himself of musk. And trump's cult will believe his lies. Letting musk be exposed to this level of classified information puts musk in a situation that he can be charged with breaching national security at will, given the slightest of misstep with what he knows.
More likely the other way around: Trump is a utility to Musk, who's the one who bought himself the man in the top spot and is - obviously - now able to do and access anything he wants. Trump's just the figurehead who can get away with anything. It had to be someone people refuse to believe is anything but a hero. Otherwise, they certainly wouldn't be allowing what's happening now: a coup.
