"And while everyone watches the face — the hands are somewhere else entirely."

I have been thinking this for a while. Trump's administration - his cabinet, his unaccountable lackeys in unauthorized positions of power, and even the Republicans in Congress - have been using Trump's distractions to quietly advance their own agendas. And those agendas are not in the best interests of the United States or its people; far from it. Their agendas are laid out in Thiel's writings, the Project 2025/2026 agenda, and many other places, and have been described quite well in many of your other writings, far better than I can.

Notice, for example, that during the war in Iran, the President (or his lackeys) diverted funding illegally to fully fund the DHS with no constraints on ICE, who are continuing their "mission". The bombings of boats in the Pacific and Caribbean and the blockade of Cuba have continued. The executive branch released a budget that all but ends the United States except as a military power. The executive branch issued an order "overhauling" our entire elections system on the false grounds of "voter fraud". Pay attention to what the federal government is really doing, not what the press focuses on (Trump's sound and fury, signifying nothing), and you will be as afraid of where this country is headed as I am.

And Isha concerts to Catholicism on a strategic day... Perhaps the day he anime his candidacy. But he's uncharismatic and repellent. I don't think it will work.

It may come back to haunt Vance how much he's gone on at length about how you're less of an American if your great great grandpappy didn't live here. Because most Americans' did not! (And many of the ones whose did were considered property of somebody else's.)

Your comments are spot on in terms of how DJT's chaotic, degenerative, and worrisome behavior is JD's cover. Thank you! And thank you for the additional information you provided for us all!

Don't forget how Vance was just in Budapest campaigning for Viktor Orbán even as he complains about foreign interference in US elections, particularly from the EU.

It's only interference when liberals do it. duh

I would go a step further and argue that JD is getting positioned and positioning himself for something much larger. If nothing else, over the past decade JD has demonstrated that he is an opportunist par excellence. However, as the American body politic has gotten to know him, they like him less and less. At the rate he is going, it is unlikely that Trump will serve out this term. He is a massive liability for the US and especially the republican party. Because Vance is, in my opinion, unelectable, his best path to the presidency is through the 25th Amendment. The Iran debacle is opened Vance’s window of opportunity. Trump, like all people without loyalty, get no loyalty. A palace coup would be a fitting end to the Trump era. “Et tu JD?”

I think this is a very keen observation! Vance’s only chance and most likely gambit is the 25th.

Now or the dustbin of history

My unpleasant thought is that if Trump becomes unpopular enough, Vance will throw him under the bus, and be fully propped up in the legacy media as "finally, a return to normal for the GOP." Iran is the perfect issue for him to say, "I never agreed with that, and I tried to tell him."

After what happened following 2008 I will never, ever assume that a political party, particularly a right wing one, can't bounce back basically instantly, if they have something to yell about.

I think JD has already concluded Trump is a dead man walking and is plotting his takeover. From Hungary to Pakistan, by his actions not words. With dumb and dumber, Witikoff and the Kush sidelined, he is emerging as the new American leader. Reminds me of an old episode of Dallas only the stakes are much higher.

"The structure imposed on it by the people around him who have actual agendas, and who have learned that the narcissist’s supply-seeking reliably produces the one thing they need most: distraction."

This structural thesis can explain why Trump survived for so long... I'm talking from the 70s to today. Roy Cohn, who was a McCarthyite, began representing & mentoring Trump in 1973. What other interests and agendas did Cohn represent? Has anyone pulled on that thread? Without Cohn, Trump may have become an obscure washed up inheritor of wealth.

Wow, just wow! So well, said. Being so clear ,as I am also, that there's no rational thinking going on with someone like Trump and any of us, Especially even sometimes the people I agree with, assume there's something Rational going on?

I hope we begin to rethink this and get wiser, anyway.Thank you for everything you write. It is so helpful during these days

Whether or not it is rational is debatable, but Trump wants the oil and thought he could repeat his Venezuela grab. He and his minions are reliably greedy and grabby.

Being the backdoor to Iran comms etc just sort of happened but his working to set himself up to run in 28 has been planned all along. He came out of nowhere...he wasnt a politician, until Theil backed him, ive read both $10M & $50 M, to run for Senator of my state. He won. I dont know if he even finished that term before he was chosen for VP. They are dismantling democracy right in everyones face, but sadly we have apparently become a nation of cowards and of ppl who cant imagine worse things than losing a job or even a home. I just cant. But Vance is no accident.

So good! Thank you! No, he is not playing 4D chess — if he was capable of that he wouldn’t have bankrupted multiple casinos! Our populace is so stupid. Not their fault— the stupidity was engineered, part of the plan. A part that worked, unfortunately. We certainly have our work cut out for us. 😳

Moby Dick is well worth the time and effort it takes, not just for the lesson. It is an excellent story.

I sincerely hope those who read this essay read it’s ENTIRETY, as in finish the “whole thing.” Rockbridge Network is the donor structure of the national right, the billionaires, the filthy rich who certainly have it in for the rest of us.

It will require structural change in the Constitution and Bill of Rights to crush this disease. Tax the rich. Alot.

Mike, the analysis seems totally accurate, but “seems” needs a bigger audience to be challenged, refined, argued, and proven. How can you get more people to listen to this argument and ensure that people understand what’s going on ?
