But the universe has a way of tacking to evolve, where this minor character may turn out to play a major role in waking us all up to the nightmare we are in. It's kind of like the famous tale of losing the horse and a herd returns.

I don’t know what to make of the fact that 45% of Americans support this abhorrent cruelty.

I’d like to read your arguments why universal values exist.

You quoted Einstein, who also said:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe." --Einstein

It is 8:41 AM my time and I will try to limit the amount I type to 7 minutes max.

The electorate in this country is stupid. Whether Americans are more stupid than Europeans could be a topic. For ten years, with the advent of Trump, I and my son have written many hundreds of emails relating to the corruption, fraud and vulgarity of Donald Trump. This was documented via reading many publications but especially the lifelong work of Wayne Barrett of the Village Voice on Trump's corruption (and Giuliano's too). Google Wayne Barrett, journalist and see what you find.

My dislike and disgust for Trump evolved during the 2016 presidential campaign. First, the mainstream media dropped the ball by not doing their homework. And so did Trump's opponents. That this man could be running for office despite his background, and the high probability of connections with Russia (many of his units in Trump Tower sold to Russians, some with criminal connections), his blatant misogyny (comments about Megan Kelly) should have had American listeners screaming WTF. What Trump said and did during his first term was so egregious, his cabinet members who were dismissed and their comments and publications so shocking, and Trump's handling of COVID-19 tantamount to overt malpractice leading to excessive deaths in this country, that his election in 2020 can only be the result of two things:

Russian or other foreign nation interference (no evidence of that)

Stupidity of the electorate (plenty of evidence of that).

For God's sake, if it looks like a duck, has feathers, quacks and swims in a pond it most likely is a duck. The reason we (the people, mainstream media, others) are so slow on the uptake to see Trump and his bandits (Cabinet) along with his unethical and moronic GOP in both House and Senate has to have a huge stupidity factor tied to underlying causation.

Trump and many of his Cabinet should be impeached given the Constitutional violations of Amendments 1, 5, and 14. Trump's use of the presidency to augment his wealth is non-stop huckstering coins, clothing, footballs, and guitars. His creating a credit card or bitcoin currency is so astounding and Americans are putting up with this bullshit.

Let's stop all this side-stepping. Trump and most of his Cabinet are Fascists by definition. We need to let those in the House and Senate know that we want Trump et al out of there via impeachment. Without this, you can kiss goodbye to any free election in 2028. Citizens will disappear, and Trump a la Mussolini will use the military to quiet in any way those opposed to him. Let's get to REALITY.

9:00 AM end. Apologies for going over my limit.

Funny. I don't see an exception in the constitution for due process. Seems like a firm principle that the government isn't allowed to violate.

The often cited statistics of "75% of Obama's deportations were without due process" are from things called Expedited Removals and Reinstatements of Removal:

Essentially, there are laws that allow DHS and ICE to order immigrants who are caught without documentation and within 14 days and 100 miles within the border to be removed (this has been expanded since Obama's presidency). There's also a law that allows DHS and ICE to order immigrants who are already on the books as having been deported previously to be deported again.

In both of those cases the undocumented don't automatically get to see a judge.

What they CAN do is claim that they want to apply for asylum or fear for their life if returned and then they can get an interview to determine if that's true and then they can appeal and see a judge.

They still have a right to a court hearing, they just didn't get it automatically.

It was also all within the confines of the law. SCOTUS upheld these laws in 2020.

This was due process and all perfectly legal.

Having said that: I'm sure that there were many instances during the Obama years when the procedures for Expedited Removals and Reinstatements for Removal weren't followed correctly by over-eager or ignorant border agents, and also I think the ACLU's assertions at the time about dubious practices should have received more attention and action from the administration. Obama's administration deserves honest critique just like any other one.

HOWEVER: Obama never defied federal courts as Trump is now doing, and an argument could be made that this fact in and of itself shows a greater violation of due process by Trump's administration. Also, There is a tremendous difference between Obama deporting people to a country and Trump sending people to be permanently detained in an overseas foreign prison, where the United States is paying millions for the country to house them there. And the deportation/rendition without due process issue is only ONE thing among a whole host of other Trump administration actions and policies that are quintessentially corrupt, unconstitutional, and brutal.

From ChatGpt

To say that President Biden “deported illegals without due process” is a serious and complex claim that requires careful legal and factual context.

Here’s what we know:

1. Due Process Is Legally Required: Under U.S. law and Supreme Court rulings, even undocumented immigrants are generally entitled to due process—meaning notice and an opportunity to be heard before deportation.

2. Expedited Removal: Some deportations under both Biden and prior administrations have occurred via expedited removal, a legal process that allows for quicker deportations without a full hearing, typically for people arrested near the border who’ve been in the U.S. for a short time. Courts have upheld this as constitutional under certain conditions.

3. Title 42 Expulsions: During much of Biden’s term, expulsions were conducted under Title 42, a public health policy originally invoked under Trump to quickly expel migrants without standard immigration proceedings. Title 42 bypassed normal immigration processes, but courts allowed its use temporarily. Critics—including legal scholars—argued it violated due process, but it was not a traditional deportation under immigration law.

4. Court Challenges: Some civil rights groups and immigration advocates have challenged aspects of Biden’s immigration enforcement, arguing they deny due process. Courts have had mixed responses, depending on the specific facts.

So is it fair to say?

It’s misleading to say Biden deported people without due process as a blanket statement, because most removals follow legally defined procedures, even if they’re expedited. However, it’s fair to critique specific policies (like Title 42 or fast-track removals) as raising due process concerns.
