Psychologists call this projection, and it's on a grand scale, with Trump & Co. providing the permission structure for the full assembly to express themselves honestly. This is how f*cked up things are in child-rearing these days -- too much "obedience training" (for dogs) and massive neglect (absentee parenting). Kids are growing up without a sense of their own worth, and it comes out as hate for everything and everyone. Nihilism, gorilla shit-throwing, petulance, infantilism. History is replete with shit to throw around; Hitler is just the greatest current example. I'm surprised they haven't chosen Nakba, too (too ignorant?). Genghis Khan anyone? Pol Pot? Idi Amin? (too brown?)

When someone tells you what they are, believe them. The republinazis have been telling us what they are for years. These baby nazis learned from their parents who learned from their parents, etc. White supremacy has been going on since the beginning of our country, and since Trump it has burst out in open proudly.

At least Trump knew the fundamental difference between men and women which Kamala -- "she's for they/them" -- Harris clearly didn't have a clue about, given her gushing over transwoman Dylan Mulvaney "living authentically as a woman".

What does that have to do with Trump bragging about sexual assault?

Methinks the issue was "character flaws in contenders to the American Imperial throne" -- for $500 please Alex. And in the subcategory of "understands basic biology", Trump is clearly the hands-down winner.

Democrats certainly seem rather remarkably clueless that that issue had, and still has, a significant impact in various past and forthcoming elections. Tipped the balance in many such contests.

That Trump had been "guilty" of some "earthy" locker-room banter -- still not any smoking gun for the charge of "sexual assault" -- pales beside Biden and Harris putting "fully-intact" males into women's sports, toilets, prisons, and change rooms -- which, methinks, qualifies as an even more egregious case of and pretext for such assaults.

The voters are learning that you can't eat Culture War.

Trump's horrific job numbers and idiotic trade policies will give Democrats an advantage large enough to overcome desperate attempts to gerrymander Republicans into power. Collapse of the agricultural sector due to deporting or scaring off many of the workers will only make the problem worse.

Maybe. I've periodically argued that Trump may well be a cure worse than the disease. But given that the "American Empire" looks to be running out of other people's money -- $33 trillion in federal debt if I'm not mistaken -- and out of time to fix some serious "systemic" problems, I'd say virtually anything was, and still is, worth a shot.

Trump blew up the deficit during his first term and is picking up right where he left off.

Dems might not understand basic biology, but Trump doesn’t understand basic economics. That seems worse, given the job.

🙄 Keep thinking that Biden and Harris putting fully-intact males into female sports, prisons, change rooms, and toilets is just a "distraction" as you lose one political election after another because the electorate clearly thinks otherwise.

I won't say I like Steersman's remarks, I think they steer us off course. But like everything, even the despicable Trump, there are elements, of some truth. I am totally sick of the attention to gayness shown by the media in seemingly the vast majority of movies and other productions from Hollywood. In 1966, while in Paris, I pissed in their public toilet (pissoir) which both sexes used. What's the big deal.

I do not know if young people are pushed or probed into gender change. I am heterosexual. I have never had a homosexual experience. Yet, I am overly sensitive, probably some significant part of me has a major maternal influence in my life. Could I have been led to a gender change if born now, and not 83 years ago? I would hope not so.

But Steersman hit on a legitimate issue despite being a non sequitur to the topic. Democrats that push so hard for gender change or allowing male ⇢ female individuals to play in women's sports is indeed absurd. If this was the major platform of any political party, I would be opposed to it. But this issue PALES in comparison to what Trump, the GOP and MAGA believe in. There is no moral equivalence here; one evil is far greater in ramifications than the other.

Steersman's avatar

Thanks. Though that "gender change" of yours is just a polite euphemism for the sterilization and castration of autistic and dysphoric children. They most certainly do NOT, as you seem to think, change males -- AKA testicle-havers -- into females -- AKA ovary-havers -- or vice-versa.

Some reason to argue that that is an "evil" much worse than anything that "Trump, the GOP and MAGA believe in". You, as a doctor, might most appreciate this case-in-point:

"REAL SUFFERING FOR A FAKE DICK; The Misery of Phalloplasty":

https://ykright.substack.com/p/real-suffering-for-a-fake-dick?utm_medium=reader2&triedRedirect=true

If medical science had progressed to actually being able to change sex then such "complications" might be justified. Otherwise? Butchery, a medical scandal and crime of the century.

As for your, "I never had a homosexual experience", that reminds me that I had once "consorted" with someone I thought was a she but who, when the chips were down and after the fact -- so to speak -- turned out to be a he. Crying Game, Part Deux.

As that probably happened some 40 years ago, I seem to have survived the experience without any debilitating consequences. But it seems typical of many transwomen to engage in such trickery, deception, and fraud, often for mere sport. It is maybe surprising that more of them don't wind up on autopsy tables as a result.

Sorry Mike, but for me, my day, every day, and day after day is filled with CRISIS in this very fucked up country. Your litany of evils, and the pathology of those admirers of evil and hatred have been part of this Nation since it eradicated the First Peoples of N. America. I am all too aware of the Nazi mentality, the White supremacist "mind" that is anti-Christ. If Christ was born this Christmas, he, the Holy Family, all of his Disciples would be gassed or burned because they were all Jews. The Hypocrisy of Christianity lies not in the fundamental teachings of Jesus, but in what organized religion, and what the so-called Church has done to pit man against man. The Creator and the Creation are about oneness and at-one-ment, not about separation.

I cannot handle anymore of what crap Trump, his minions, or those in the Young Republican Party are doing. Yes, it should be documented, but a day or two of sensationalistic news will not result in fixing the problem; it never has. − this has my cup spilling over, and now cracked as well. I feel broken. I can take just so much shit, and then I can't take anymore.

For sure, as I have said since 2016, Trump is a Hitler wanna-be. He is a Kim Jong-un wanna-be. Trump would be ecstatic to grab the power of Putin − his number 1 idol. For Trump, God in his micro-universe of "what's in it for me" is the acquisition of power and wealth. Watch as Trump invades other countries - perhaps Venezuela; tries to usurp power in Greenland, and ruminates over Canada being another state in his grab bag.

But those who care, who have ethic, moral fiber, and a desire for legacy, unity and vision, should realize that focusing on what we do not want is part of what's wrong with the Democratic Party. We should not allow ourselves to become possessed by the evils of monomania or rumination. These will be our ruination. We should focus on relating to others what we want, and what we want those we elect to office to bring to reality. But I apologize, since some of what I want, involves a "no" to what current is.

I bring to your attention a writer from the tiny town of Port Royal, Kentucky. He should be our Poet Laureate for the America we want to live in, and for our children to thrive. Here's one quote worth your reflection:

"A crowd whose discontent has risen no higher than the level of slogans is only a crowd. But a crowd that understands the reasons for its discontent and knows the remedies is a vital community, and it will have to be reckoned with."

− Berry, Wendell. A Continuous Harmony: Essays Cultural and Agricultural (p. 75). Hard Copy edition.

I will be at my local No Kings protest. I wish it would be more than a bunch of signs saying what we don't want, but rather what we aspire to be as sentient beings on this incredible Earth.

I wish it was a silent protest of signs saying I want to see LUV (Legacy, Unity, Vision).

These are what I want. They are not in any order. This list is incomplete, but it is a decent draft.

1. Those in political office, from POTUS down to members of Congress, governors and mayors, have the same health insurance when they reach 65 as the rest of us.

2. Prices for drugs are the same as those in the EU, or in Mexico.

3. Medical schools and nursing schools in the US, doubling the size of their graduating classes.

4. Term limits to the members of Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS)

5. Members of Congress, and the Administration, fly commercial airlines.

6. A minimum wage of at least $15 per hour.

7. Super generous funding of Education in the US.

8. Request all nations of the world to fund social and economic issues outside the US.

9. Universal healthcare in the US.

10. Eliminate the advertising of drugs on television.

11. The amount of funds is fixed and allocated by taxpayers for those running for political office.

12. Eliminate Gerrymandering.

13. Eliminate the Electoral College. Elections are won by the popular vote.

14. Justices of the Supreme Court are voted on by the people every 4–6 years.

15. No pardons for anyone per POTUS. A pardon must be though approval of first House and Senate by 60% vote. If that does not seem just, then a secondary confirmative vote every two years by popular vote.

16. In a government shutdown, no one in government is paid, including POTUS.

17. No use of taxpayer dollars for glitz and glamour. No military parades, redecoration of the White House per POTUS, no expenditure of millions of dollars on dinners and parties.

18. Eliminate Presidential Immunity. POTUS is an elected official. He is not above the law.

19. Tariffs are approved by Congress, not by POTUS.

20. Pay generously those whose services are vital to the health of a community: teachers, law enforcement, firemen, for starters.

21. Immigration legislation with financial support to vet those wishing to come to the US, and then fast-track their path to US citizenship.

22. Decrease the cost of education. In areas of need, pay for education via taxpayer dollars, but upon completion of education there should be payback in community service.

23. Realize the sacred and unique gift of life on this planet and repair the damage we have done to the Earth. Look at molten lava community-size nuclear reactors as now being created by China. Create a Manhattan Project(s) to validate their efficacy and safety and then fast-track their development. Think of what legacy we are leaving to our children. Stop the use of products that result in the corruption of the environment. Instead of billions spent on weapons to kill and destroy, spend the same amounts to create and fix.

Here too, in the Netherlands, they also use the same tactics Vance used to minimize or normalize the far right. When on the 20th of September a far right anti immigration march went violent, the right wing politicians didn't even want to admit that the protesters were far right, saying instead that they were hooligans, football supporters, when in reality, it was crystal clear who they were: they were pictures of people doing the nazi salute, flags related to the Dutch nazi party from the second world war, they chanted racist slogans, and attacked the headquarters of a center left liberal party. But no, they weren't political, no, just some too energetic jongens.

You are held to standards that are unreasonably high while their transgressions aren’t taken seriously. Cons can say and do whatever they want and it’s fine. You are scrutinized for whatever you do. What that’s called is PRIVILEGE.

Because they aren’t arguing issues. They aren’t even arguing about what behavior is acceptable and what isn’t. They aren’t even arguing just blindly ASSERTING their right to do and say whatever they want and FORCE people to think it’s acceptable.

It’s an act of DOMINATION. Just as much as the right to pull over any Brown skinned person they want and push that that isn’t just acceptable, it’s necessary. Just as the idea of a Black kid getting shot by police shouldn’t strike people as offensive. They probably deserve it. They want to bring an instinctive PREJUDICE against Liberals and Democrats.

When folks from Libbylib, Libtardland have been pointing to outrages against immigrants, saying that it’s the First *sign*, where in the list of “First they came for the ______,” did you think YOU were going to fit? All the troops on the street attacking immigrants and “Antifa” is softening up the country for when Trump comes after his main enemy: YOU.

All this talk about radical, far Left Communist Fascist Vegan Trans Crustacean Cannibal Demonazis has been excused as hyperbolic ridiculousness, but so did the stupid tabloid style articles that loaded up everyone’s Facebook feed back in 2016. Nobody takes that junk seriously. Until they do.

Well, they've invaded Democratic strongholds with a military custom built to evade Constitutional regulation, they're openly gerrymandering population centers into disenfranchisement, they're petitioning the Supreme Court to legitimize factionalism of American cities... And they're saying they like Hitler, rape and overt racism, as they are taking people off the streets without warrant or due process.

You may have covered this in your probably overly long-winded peregrinations on the topic, but I wonder if the "pro-Hitler" "arguments" were more based on "blood and soil" "principles" than any understanding of the consequences of Hitler's "misuse" of the concept.

ETA: It has always amused me, at least for 6 or 7 decades, the extent to which the emblem and defining icon of fascism -- the fasces of Imperial Rome -- are replicated and given "pride of place" throughout much of American government, and those of other countries:

It took me a day to read this. Then I read it again. It’s a chilling message but one I hope more and more people read, even though it’s uncomfortable to face. We’ve been taught to trust that our democratic principles and norms were self-evident, even holy, that they would withstand the authoritarian pressures. This piece reveals that they will not hold unless we collectively insist very strongly that they stand for something that cannot and should not be squashed. And when we come through this attempted coup, we need accountability for those who have tried to take America down, and major guardrails to ensure our checks and balances will hold.

Good, informative, and provocative, and well reasoned. I appreciate your work.

America has not done well in asymmetrical warfare in recent years, but the Republicans have refined the basic brutal principles to politics.

Politics is war, and they use every trick in the book to win. There are no rules of civility and no respect for civic virtue. Do whatever it takes…just win.

This puts traditional rules-bound opposition in a difficult place. We don’t want to become like them. We have to be more creative, visible, and vigorous. We may have to break with some traditions to preserve what is really important.

Some of the old Democratic leadership has been slow to recognize this, and slower to act on it.

What concerns me is the narrow view you present here, as if Nazi rhetoric were the biggest threat today. This administration is pro-Israel, pro-Jew, and a proud supporter of Judeo-Christian civilization. Calling it fascist is political propaganda and not an accurate picture of reality. While fascism might be on the rise in the closet, most likely it will stay hidden because society rightly condemns it. In contrast, Bolshevik communism is out in the open, waving the Soviet red flag alongside Hamas and Palestine banners. Ideas like a global Antifada and state-owned grocery stores are now real options for New York and are openly discussed on CNN. Communists and Islamists are working together, recruiting openly, and you remain silent. That’s what worries me, not JD Vance.
