I'm more cynical than you. Her "forgiveness" felt performative and calculated. But I am open to be proved wrong. Let's see what her ACTIONS are in the months to come.

Jools, TPUSA has a donations page for Kirk's family. As of this morning they have raised USD $2,348,097. Note that this is seperate from the prominently displayed calls to donate to TPUSA. There is even a note at the bottom with an email address if you want to donate more than $100,000 (past the funding site's limit?). The Kirks were already millionaires. Erika Kirk assumed the role of TPUSA CEO, which reportedly paid Charlie Kirk $300,000 a year. This is who they are. Even in genuine grief, they reflexively gather money and resources they don't need from those who have less.

These ppl are Bottomless feeders & grifters and that’s on a good day. On their best days, there’s No limits to these parasites. I do feel for those who are the most vulnerable who are so gullible - but to a point.

Agree! And I feel shocked when I read people feel empathy for her since no one has a clue on what she feels … As they are quite probably a few hidden things who are quite not Christian

I base my empathy on shared human experiences, in this case loss of a loved one.

It’s allowed, btw, and will not harm the emphasizer or anyone else.

Thèse sre good thoughts.

But it is not empathy!

Check!

I think your idea of empathy might be better described as approval or thinking well of. Recognizing someone else’s possible pain does not require these. The “love your neighbor” command has similar complexities.

Have you lost any sense for reality ?

Did you hear Dear Leader, Vance, Fox News, Miller, Musk, Bondi, Homan, deep red senators, mass shooters and others ? And MAGA militants? And far right influencers like Charlie Kirk? They convey hate as much as a human being can … even more.

Daily calls for murder … and daily murders and death threats.

I understand you hate liberals and democrats but these guys just do … nothing ….

They’re too kind!

And if they say Trump and his bunch of sinister clowns behave Nazis or fascists this is just plain obvious!

I quite don’t understand why they do not take it as a compliment given their efforts to plagiarize them.

This the overwhelming world’s opinion… contempt and disgust.

Unlike American we have kept some political conscience, historical culture so we understand what we see and hear.

Why do you think Trump is so universally despised? Not really feared or if feared only because he is suicidal and unpredictable, because he supports China and Russia by killing the US, because he considers his allies as enemies?

The transition is quite difficult sometimes but at the end of the day, losing the US is a good thing for everyone.

Sounds like it was the American Heresy on full display after seeing a sample of genuine Christianity: https://bsky.app/profile/rahaeli.bsky.social/post/3loqsfhswjk2r

Of course, Trump also had to poison the whole thing further by bringing up his eugenics pledge again.

And the antisemitism should be no surprise; American evangelical Protestantism especially has always been suffused with antisemitism, especially evident in their reasons for supporting Israel (noted in the above thread).

(Edwin Montagu argued over a century ago that Zionism was an inherently antisemitic ideology: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_Montagu#Anti-Zionism Sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference between a Zionist and a Nazi: https://zionism.wtf/#zionist-or-nazi )

I'm not a Christian of any description. But it's sad to watch self-professed Christians fail to live the moral teachings of their own religion:

“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

(Luke 6:27-36, NIV)

Sadly, no hope for the US until/unless tens of millions of Republican voters recognise that they have made an evil choice to support evil rulers. Zero evidence that this is happening, rather they are becoming more evil with every day that passes.

I don't know if her comments were heart felt because I can't know her heart; her sentiments were consistent with my understanding of Christian teaching. If we assume all speech we might otherwise agree with that comes from the other side (our "enemies?") is disingenuous or hypocritical we are really all playing the same losing game.

As you intimate, this may not be the last word. I won't judge the deep conflict his wife might feel right now, especially in view of the audience reaction -- it was not fertile ground for her offering. The Big Ugly is going down; the trial is yet to commence, with revelations we may not expect (we can hope that Utah doesn't screw it up, as DoJ likely would).

This has the earmarks of an odd diversion or even inflection point in the grand scheme of things, and we need to keep our eyes on the prize: this convulsion of revulsion (MAGA) needs to be remedied, and the deepest correction we can make is to remove the power of wealth to corrupt absolutely everything but our souls (only we can agree to that). Democratize the economy! We can prove Charlie Kirk wrong. About everything.
