One of the earliest premonitions I had in November was just this: the J6 would be pardoned and form a cadre of loyalists soldiers. Only partially correct, unfortunately, I knew he might use the military but by recruiting the lowest thugs on the magat ladder I was even more taken aback: I’ve known people such as these, and there will be no quarter.
Yeah, likewise, but there were still adults then which was like a lifeline on a sailboat. a 3/8” steel wire that wraps around the deck. And it’s not a bad metaphor, but while we were sort of sighing a tiny bit of relief, they were doubtless taking notes about how to remove this possibility “next time”. As soon as I saw the first nominee was Matt Gaetz, rejected or not, I knew it was likely to be game over.
"The homegrowns are next," because if noncitizens don't have due process, then neither do citizens; all the government has to do is claim you are not a citizen and therefore, lacking due process, you have no opportunity to rebut the claim.
It's getting really hard to see a path out of this mess without our two competing versions of America coming to a head. A society cannot be successful when one half wants to tear it all to the ground and subject their enemies to rule by force.
It really does look to the outside observer, that this is spiraling towards violence if something doesn’t give. We are witnessing complete constitutional collapse.
So true! Bear in mind, every last one of these chicken-shit operators must be arrested and thrown into solitary pending due process, ASAP, so let's find a way! The road back to democracy, over the supine bodies of bad faith Repugnicans, back to an advanced society starring the middle class and supported by all of us at the expense of the robber barons, is a long agenda, and I'm making my list, checking it twice! Solitary may provide the entry point to therapy -- they've been maligned from an early age and need to find a role in humanity. We simply cannot continue down our current road, or imagine that we can go "back" to anything. Build a better civilization without parasites.
You lost me on blaming Paula Xinis. She’s the reason he was brought back from CECOT (“facilitate his release”) and she’s not an immigration court judge. She has no power to prohibit lawful deportations. It was SCOTUS that green-lighted the regime’s exploitation of the third-country deportation exception and SCOTUS also stands ready to overturn anything the lower court judges do to protect people like Kilmar that isn’t airtight on appeal.
Also, further to my previous remark, back in the days of chattel slavery, the law didn't recognise marriages between slaves, so it was completely legal for slaveowners to break up families through buying and selling some but not all of the slaves in them.
This is just the next iteration of that. "Pro-family" has always only ever meant "pro-families that white racists approve of". (And even then, if you're a white person with a disability, or who is poor, or who objects to this regime's actions on principle, or disagrees with this regime on whatever point of policy, you're somewhere on the list too.) Remember what Steve King said: "We can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies."
Trump himself is more classist than racist (the racism is a side effect of the classism, because of the correlation between race and class in the United States, itself a legacy of slavery and the failure to pay reparations to former slaves and strip former slaveowners of their ill-gotten gains). There were reports of a discussion between Trump and Steve Bannon where Trump argued that the US should focus on allowing rich people (say, rich Indians) to immigrate, regardless of race, while Bannon argued that the focus should be on white immigration, regardless of financial status. He is, however, a very useful puppet through which actual racists can enact their agenda.
The culture of American individualism is degenerating into a culture of American indifference and cruelty as you pointed out
Not sure how you made the jump there, but it seems you just have a bone to pick.
Fascism is about as far from individualism as you can get.

To be honest, I expected this during his first Misadministration.

Sadism is the signature of this regime.

They already deported one US citizen to Brazil, after all, leaving Brazilian authorities scrambling to figure out what to do with a two-year-old child who has no right to be in their country but also cannot return to her own, because her parents were undocumented in the US: https://www.newsweek.com/2-year-old-us-citizen-deported-country-where-she-lacks-legal-status-2078953
Where is the mainstream media on this depravity?
They're owned by the oligarchy behind all of this.

To be clear, I don't think she did anything wrong
