This from the Party of Pack the Court, ignore the Constitution, search the penumbra and emanations to cover their cupidity. SCOTUS has supported Executive authority in every case, or nearly so. The administration has given more defference to partisan lower courts than is justified. Since Wilson the Constitution has been despised by Democrats and thwarted at every turn.

It falls to Democrats and misguided Republicans to support endless government and the ensuing corruption.

It seems the future for the US is becoming clearer. Aren't elections just inconveniences to "effective governance"?

Mike, you are a smart guy. I agree with most of what you have to say. But why is it that you can’t seem to see that the deterioration you describe is a product of late stage capitalism breeding the kind of corruption uncontrolled capitalism breeds?

I mean, I certainly agree that capital's power in our society is a big part of the problem. But it's not the only part. There's an unholy alliance between capital and authoritarian populism, for instance. The latter will crush the former. Their common enemy is liberalism. I mean, I definitely think we need to defang the political power of capital, through anti-trust, getting Citizens United overturned, massively reforming campaign finance laws, lobbying reform, etc. I'm open to discussions about the estate tax to limit intergenerational wealth. But am I re-considering my opposition to socialist economics? No. Because It's proven to be even more dangerous. And for well understood reasons.

New subscriber here and minimally trained (MS degree) philosopher too! I love being part of this community! 🙂. This is my first post and I mostly agree with the analysis presented.. the current GOP is indeed morally bankrupt. It has been captured by a neo-popululist authoritarian faction, but it wasn't a rape. It was a willing thing and long time in the coming, at least since 1946. History keeps repeating itself with slight variations. Again, glad to be here! ☀️ Hello to any formal logicians out there!
