I have been screaming since his confirmation that Rubio is indeed the architect. He was writing op-eds for El Salvador (official government website) and the Miami Herald about Alien Enemies, CECOT and becoming allies with El Salvador months before Trump and Miller were talking about it. He is absolutely the brains behind Venezuela. He is absolutely the architect of annexing Greenland. He was behind the Panama Canal nonsense last year.

And he’s been a blatant Christian Nationalist for the past decade.

We can not let anyone consider him the adult in the room or less dangerous than anyone else in this regime.

Indeed. When the "Never Trump" sites I read (cough The Bulwark cough) were ecstatic about his nom for SoS I was just agape. No, Marco isn't "one of the good ones", an "Adult" in the room. No, he's steeped in the rot.

Yeah. I was also horrified by the rhetoric when he got the nom, from sources who should have known better.

There was a lot of "Thank god, Rubio is *NORMAL*"

I was like "Have you been living under a rock for the last 10 years?"

Had a fantasy today based on Rubio saying that we are going to "buy Greenland". Obviously, taxpayers would have to pay for this, and obviously only Trump's cronies would benefit from the resulting federal contracts and mineral rights. So my irrational hope is that Rubio is sending out a distress message in hopes that Republican outrage will surge over the our taxes being spent to buy Greenland.

Then my idea progressed to the notion of Rubio, Vance and others secretly plotting (Miller & Hegseth excluded) to remove Trump from office via the 25th Amendment. Certainly it occurs to staffers how much less stressful their jobs would be if they didn't have to worry about what Trump's next erratic action would be.

I'm proud to be one of the leftist fucking hordes! And Liddle Marco can kiss my fucking ass. He's a Nazi just like everyone else in this fascist regime. They all need to be lined up against a wall and shot. I'll gladly volunteer to d o the honors.

Excellent post. Sharing with my subscribers tomorrow.

Florida writes its own punchline; little Marco can’t tell a joke, though.

Thanks for this piece. It makes so much sense. Putting Rubio in charge after Trump leaves office (one way or another) is the same thing as removing Maduro and leaving the rest of his political organization intact. The a-a-t folks don’t want regime change. They want the same regime to continue; they just want it to look more “presidential”. Good luck putting that genie back in the bottle. Thanks for pointing out that the disinformation campaign to sell Mr. Rubio to a-a-t voters has begun. I worry that it might be successful, given how effective the disinformation campaign to turn Capitol building insurrectionists into patriots has been.

This new imperialism is in the neo-con fever dream known as project 2025. Of course they want Rubio next. JD Vance is not going to play this game like Rubio will.

Lest we forget, Rubio is also the man who signed off on the destruction of USAID. With the stroke of a pen and a reorg he condemned thousands to die around the world and left food to rot rather than feed anyone. That level of cold-blooded horror consigns him to the level of venality previously reserved for JD Vance and his pet-eating. The level for those who will countenance any harm to innocents they cannot see for the sake of their own advancement. It tells you everything you need to know about his character.

At this point I actually despise the anti-Trump Republicans that I know more than actual MAGA. MAGA diehards are irredeemably horrible people but at least they’re honest about their values and motivations. It’s the “good Germans” who are clutching their pearls and exclaiming about “what has happened to my party?” and doing write ins for their dream candidates instead of voting for the actual opposition that make me the most furious (I have a lot of these people in my past). As if they don’t know what you’ve been voting for the past 50 years. They are dead to me and will never cleanse themselves of the stink of their own cowardice and corruption.
