Republicans denigrate DEI programs as depriving white Christian males, mainly, the opportunity to be accepted/promoted on the basis of merit by giving preference to "less qualified" personnel of other races and creeds. Hence the derogatory term "DEI hire." The intent is quite the reverse, namely to stop giving preference to white Christian males thereby depriving persons of different races and creeds the opportunity to be accepted/promoted on the basis of merit.

the usage of disappearing messages is very telling. per timothy snyder, they are erasing record of their behavior, which, when combined with their attack on human rights, is alarming.

“Their actions have revealed what they truly value, and it isn't merit. It isn't excellence. It isn't the best person for the job. It isn't national security. It's power—raw, unaccountable power exercised through loyal agents regardless of their fitness for office.”

Agreed! And they certainly don’t give a damn about America, because if they did, they’d know that they were dismantling our democracy (rule of law), weakening our economy (tariffs and the destruction of our federal agencies) and our National Security Apparatus; incompetence, corruption and stupidity! IMHO!…:)

This is a very convincing article outlining the hypocrisy of the Republican majority and Administration. They have long had an agenda. Anti-DEI is actually a racist attack on people of color and a sexist attack on women. Their argument seems to be that women and minorities are inferior to straight white males. That is not promoting excellence. As for voting for second-rate cabinet secretaries, it seems as if the senators are in thrall of a cult that is transforming America into a clone of Putin’s fascist Russia, with control over its citizens, concentration of wealth in the hands of a few oligarchs, and hatred towards minorities. We must prevail over what Michael Cohen warned would be the destruction of America if his former boss was re-elected.

The total recklessness of the Trump administration is terrifying. It seems that is the point.

Be elected to congress or appointed to high governmental positions is very much distinct from qualified or able. It’s a game of vociferousness and loyalty now . Electability and a large bank account are one and the same . And as a note day lengths change - getting longer due to drag from the moons gravity -long ago days lengths were far shorter - like 18 hours in the dinosaur era - with a few current examples as heads of state !
