I agree with most of this. Carney is not a Chicago-school economist. Quite the contrary. He's more of a Keynesian. A true liberal in the classic sense, not a neo-liberal. You should read his book Value(s). He also appears to be a Zen master of negotiation. We here in Canada are very lucky to have him, we voted for him, and because we still live in a functioning democracy with a fair electoral process our votes counted. We hope we can help America as well. We'll see. 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁

In his book Values what stood out to me was his views on inequality. The more equal a society is the better the outcomes for its citizens. Reducing poverty can tackle these issues

Community life and social relations

Mental health and drug use

Physical health and life expectancy

Obesity: wider income gaps, wider waists

Educational performance

Teenage births: recycling deprivation

Violence: gaining respect

Imprisonment and punishment

Social mobility unequal opportunities

His wife is also an Oxford economist who works in climate policy and social justice issues

Agreed. I've read "zvalues," and Carney is no acolyte of Milton Friedman. If anything, he's a pragmatist and a proud Canadian - two characteristics I admire.

Carney reflects and represented Canadians in the Oval Office. Class act. Go Carney.

This is not just the art of diplomacy ... it's a master class on managing malignant narcissists like Trump. Saying "no" is really about setting boundaries. Trump will grudgingly respect that but would never admit it.

Carney makes a critical point in Value(s), that (I may have not the exact quote): " We signed up for a market economy not for a market society". A Trump acolyte accused Canada as voting for socialism, which may seem absurd, yet reveals how academics in economics and finance, and politicians, have obscured the representation and operations of different economics and political systems. We know what the right collectively stands for in economics and politics. They celebrate this at international conferences. Why cannot Albanese, Carney, Starmer, Melenchon and their peers in Northern Europe articulate one clear alternative, its values, and its benefits.

Due to my focus on prostate cancer (PC) as a medical oncologist, I was an oddity for 42 years of that specialization. Only a handful of medical oncologists worldwide focused solely on PC. My departure from general adult oncology occurred during my collaboration with Fernand Labrie of Laval University in Quebec. With that "rare bird" distinction and from word-of-mouth, many patients and spouses consulted with me in my office in Culver City, California.

Now, fast forward to the "Error" (sic) of Trump. "Sic" is very appropriate, since many Americans with some degree of cognitive function realize what a dangerous and pathologic clown he is. My father, who grew up in Trump's Queen's neighborhood would call Donald a "bum."

Since 2015, I have sent group emails to family, friends, colleagues, and most of my former patients. Of those patients replying, a high percentage are Canadian. I think that as a nation, the Canadians are wiser than their American counterparts. Again, using medicine as a vehicle to convey principles, I would discuss the concept of patient empowerment at presentations I made around the world, including at least two or three in Calgary.

I would say that the empowered patient achieves a more optimal result because they ACT. And by "act" I mean show these character traits:

ACT: Action, Commitment, Togetherness

In contrast, those patients with inferior outcomes, fail to act because they ail. And by "ail" I mean show these traits:

AIL: Apathy, Indifference to cause, and lack of Unity

Americans are far more likely to have AIL than other citizens of the world. They do not grasp foundational concepts such as PREVENTION or EARLY DIAGNOSIS. They are reactive and not proactive.

They do not act, but ail.

We can discuss one infringement by Trump and his acolytes after another, ad nauseum. Still, because we AIL so much, and can't seem to come to even a late diagnosis, the prognosis for this country insofar as Defend Our Great Experiment, will instead be Destroy Our Great Experiment (DOGE).

Well said. MAGA says that about Carney because it's what THEY like to see in politics. It's at the root of it. They love seeing that big blustery power trip on their behalf. Maple MAGA in Canada love that, too. I am still wondering how they think it would have gone well trying to do any of that in Trumps own house, surrounded by his clown car of goons. As if in the couple hours that Carney was engaged with Trump they'd have hashed all that out or would actually hash out/negotiate policy for some done deal right in the public eye. Doesn't make sense.

Everything that the donald, Mr. Deal Maker, or as I call him, Mr. Flip-Flop and Fold, has done in the last few weeks has mainly accomplished one thing. It has shown us how weak he really is. Not just personally weak, but politically.

Carney was not a Chicago school economist. Look at his record on financial regulation and his industrial policy promises. Also disparaging Friedman on the campaign trail.

How much were you paid to write this drivel. As much as you were to promote an intellectually handicapped woman with the emotional temperament and maturity of a thirteen-year-old schoolgirl as the successor to a degenerate with dementia? Good grief.
