Hey Mike. I missed this and need to say “never mind” about sending you the info on Gary Stevenson. Of course you already knew of him. So I am happy. Kathleen

My significant issue with wealth tax is that its ambulance at the bottom of the cliff solution. If you get other taxes low or non existent we get extreme concentration of wealth.

And that the proposed wealth tax on top 0.1% wont do much, needs to be much broader.

And tax is just a start. Got to deliver goods and services.

I dont know if you know, the UK privatised its railway and multiple companies operate the line. I mean not multiple lines competing against each other, no, just one line cut into parts maintained by different companies. You can tax all you like, but you cannot deliver good service with these sort of arrangements with the business folks.

Meanwhile UK water companies:

“By 2023, the companies collectively owed more than £64 billion in debt, but had extracted dividends of more than £78 billion (since privatisation).”

What you gonna do with wealth tax? Take over these companies, pay the shareholders handsomely and then ‘oh, we need more taxes, all gone in the buy out’
