When I started Notes From the Circus, I saw it as a hobby—a space to explore ideas about democracy, technology, and power that I found fascinating. But as events have unfolded and these writings have resonated with more people, I've realized this project needs to become something more.
The threats to democratic institutions we're documenting aren't just theoretical anymore. They're being implemented in real-time, as we see with attempts to bypass democratic processes and constitutional constraints. This creates an urgent need for clear, thoughtful analysis to help people understand what's happening and how to respond.
To meet this challenge, I'm looking to expand our capacity. I need freelance editors who can help sharpen these messages and contributors who can bring additional perspectives to our mission of speaking truth to power. I'm mainly focused on developing liberal correctives—practical ways to strengthen democratic institutions against reactionary and authoritarian threats.
While expanding the scope, I remain committed to keeping this content freely accessible. The stakes are too high to put this analysis behind a paywall. However, for those who support this work financially, I'll be offering perks like Zoom discussions where we can dive deeper into these ideas together.
Your voluntary support will help improve the quality and frequency of content here at Notes From the Circus. But whether you can contribute financially or not, what matters most is engaging with these ideas and helping preserve meaningful democratic discourse in our technological age.
Thank you for being part of this growing community.

I believe fiction can be the most powerful means of messaging. My novels warned of an American Spring more than a decade ago. My short story on Elon Musk six weeks before he rebranded to X creatively demonstrated how Musk could takeover Elections and the judicial system, leading to the trial of humanity. My breadth of writings on social, economic, and political essays could be of value. Would love to be involved in zoom discussions to contemplate next steps on how to engage the masses on the dangers ahead.
I’m a retired writer and editor. I think what you write is incredibly important, and I’d love to help you. (I’m also an inactive member of the California State Bar, if that’s of any interest.)
